Sunday June 10 2007 - TRIP BACK IN TIME
So on Saturday we drove to Drumheller to the Royal Tyrrel Dinosaur Museum. We haven't ever taken our kids and since Ava learned a lot about them this year in school, we figured it would be a good little trip to make (before we move down south and the drive becomes that much longer!). It was very spur of the moment (I wish a trip to Disney Land could be that spur of the moment) and that added to the fun of the day. I was up just before 6am to pack a picnic lunch and get totally organized so that when the kids woke up, we could just leave by 8am. The drive was pleasant and it was fun anticipating going to the Museum again. I totally remember going as a young girl with my family. My dad was awesome to take us places...usually our trips centered around reptiles or beasts (wonder why???) but none the less...it was always memorable. I was a little sad not to see this wobbly bridge that I distinctly remember crossing (my dad teasing me by shaking it as I clung to it for dear life). I'm hoping it was a little ways off from where we were willing to explore this time!!! Perhaps it's a memory mixed up with the Calgary Zoo bridge, but I even remember what I was wearing that day and can track it right back to playing on the hoo doos. I wish I wasn't getting so old and forgetful. Anyway, LOTS has changed there since I went but it was still quite fun. I was happy at least to know that our kids will likely walk away with the same great memories I did that day as I heard comments from the girls at the end like.. " this is the best day ever"...or "I wish we could come here all the time"!!!
It took a little convincing to get them all to pose in front of the T-Rex. It was a bit spooky, even for Ava, and it didn't help that it was dark. You'll have to visit Chad's blog for a MUCH better picture of this T-Rex (from when they went a few months back). It really is impressive! Reminded me of the movie Night at the Museum!! Funny show!) Mya wasn't too interested with all the dinosaurs I have to say. I think she'd have prefered to see a little more "dressing up" of the fossills (that would have caught her attention a little better) but she still had fun (just too young to really appreciate it I suppose). Though she was a big help lifting Brooklyn so she could reach all the fun buttons.
There was lots to see and do (and tons I missed as I chased Mya and Brookie through the Museum. Ava was a great age to go...interested in it all (unless of course you are a little boy and instinctly love this sort of thing like I know some of my nephews do!!! Even little Chaim enjoys a good dinosaur book and he's a baby!!! That's so funny isn't it!!!)
Brooklyn got a great reaction from her sisters with this new face of hers....and walked around the museum saying "hiho (hello) dio-ser (dinosaur)" and gave this pretty face and then waved bye bye or growled really loud at it.
Kendall of course read the signs and took it all in. It was fun to watch him explain things to the girls, and I instantly got an image of him being their teacher when they hit Jr. High someday. A definate possibility now where we are headed! Though I can't wait to see what that will be like (I just finished watching him try to get a sliver out of Ava's foot tonight....I can't wait to see his frustration with teaching her how to balance chemical reactions etc).
All in all, the museum was great and a must see for anyone in the area!!!! (about 1.5 hours once your are outside of Calgary).
Then we enjoyed a little bit of site seeing. There are so many more places we'd have loved to have visited but we'll save that for a day when our girls are a little older (and when missing naps don't equate in such a dent on the fun scale for the day).
I wish we could just travel and explore places together EVERYDAY!!!!
And then we came across this cool little water park. We saw this GIANT Dinosaur and big grassy area and figured it would be good for the picnic.....
Mya was disappointed when we told her we wouldn't climb up it (you could climb to the top and there was a big window right out the dino's mouth where we could barely see people waving from way up there). It cost $10 to do though...so even though she was disappointed I was VERY relieved that I didn't have to carry my already sore body all that way up there!!!
But it was all good cause they quickly spotted this outdoor waterpark. So fun but I just wished I had known about it and brought their swimsuits or at least a change of clothes! The weather was perfect and the girls got soaked to the bone!!!! It was a bit of a soggy ride home...but still an awesome fun day!!!
Now it' s back to real life tomorrow. Work, work and more work...and packing the house. Our home is officially sold (though no sale sticker yet or I'd have included that picture in this post). We can't wait to move on to bigger and better though this place will always be really special to us. We really have loved living here!!!!
bla bla bla....I've really BLOG-ed way too much this time!!
