Thursday April 24 2008 - TOMORROW
Ok, so I just read this pamphlet that I picked up at the Bookstore written by a Carol Lynn Pearson. It was cute and best of all was a good quick read (and even kinda cheap). I turned to the 3rd page and read this: "Katy and I were driving in the car, and she said, "Let's sing a song from Annie". "Okay." I said. "Shall we sing Tomorrow?" "No" she said, "Let's sing now".
I LOVED this for many reasons. Perhaps cause I'm a bit of a procrastinater by nature and sometimes think of good things I want to do...but don't feel I have the time for and tell myself "maybe tomorrow!". You know that quote by Harold Hill (apparently it was from the Music Man)
" If you put off everything until tomorrow, all you have left are a lot of empty yesterdays".
Another reason this hit home to me is that there are 2 movies I vividly remember watching with my mom. One was Annie and the other of course was Anne of Green Gables. Two classics that my own girls today have equally enjoyed!!! I also remember linking arms (at our elbows) as we watched this. You can imagine what it does to me today when my own daughter will cuddle up next to me and link arms. (sigh!) So Annie actually became a bit of a theme song for my Mom. I remember going to visit her in the hospital and all 4 of us singing "Tomorrow". The lyrics especially have a special meaning for our whole family but at the time...I think especially for my mom. On her (and now my Dads) grave stone, is a picture of the Temple with Families are Forever written at the top and at the bottom it says "Tomorrow is only a day away". I love what that has come to mean for me!
So reading this little quote today has reinforced the need for me to let other things go....dishes, cleaning all those things that really aren't that important... and taking time with my children, journalling experiences, making the most of my "today" with things that will really count "tomorrow"!
